Step 1 : Connecting the Core system

Let connect a basic display system. Please un-shell the TV dongle. don’t break anything. Testing you TV dongle by 2.5MM AV cable, find out which one is the Video positive, Video negative, Audio Left, Audio right and General negative on board. You can disassemble a AV cable for testing.
Start to soldering the Video positive and negative from disassembled AV cable with our FLCOS display.  after that, we also need connect power  with mini display. You can disassemble a usb cable for that.
After those step, you can connect the power of TV dongle and mini display and waiting for the boot up screen.  If you only see the boot up and full black after that. Try to change the resolution as low as you can.
You may curious why we chose the most oldest AV format.  Two reasons: First, Cheeper, high resolution display usually cost $150, we want keep this price low. Second, Simple. smallest Android platform is using MIPI, it is hard to connect. But we will keep working on that and try to improve it in the nearly future.

Step 2 : Power supply

We are going to complete the power supply part in this step. Usually the Li-lion battery and battery battery charger circuit have to soldering by our self. For safety reason, I suggest to using Dupont wire to connecting battery with chips,  you can un plug the battery when you don’t need it.

Cut 10CM wire  in two different color, soldering USB plug and Output on chip. that’s all about power. Please don’t forget to test it with you basic system from step 1.  Please be careful to read the USB PIN introduction. And after all the soldering, you can using Hot Melt Glue to keep the soldering point stronger.

Step 3 : Control

We already get the basic system with power supply. Now we will build up the controller. We have to setup bluetooth keyboard or Mouse before we start minimized the TV dongle PCB.

Most smaller touch pad we can get online is parts for netbook. Make sure you get the USB version, and we need customize a small chip to convert FPC to wire.  We have to soldering the USB wire from conversion PCB to the USB  socket on main PCB.

And, you are done with the controller now.

Step 4 : Simplify

We have to simplify the PCB to make our system simpler. AV socket, HDMI socket, OTG USB and all other useless components.
We don’t suggest using heat gun to do this. It is very easy  break others on PCB. We using Electric Soldering Irons to heat the soldering tin and suck it away. And using knife to get out the components. But don’t forget take picture and remember who they are.

Step 5 : Sound

Sound system is the most simple part. Are you still remember the AV port. We have left and right out, you need soldering the bone conduction speaker with right out and general negative. Done

Step 6 : Case

Before we start on optics part, We need case to hold all the components. You can using the  source file download from our website if you didn’t chose different size components. And you can goto the 3D printing shop to get you own case. We suggest to using Stereo Lithography Apparatus printer to get the best detail and quality. Please don’t forget make the inside of case in black. One thing to notice, we didn’t design any lockers in case, you need using rubber band to fixing the case.

Step 7 : Optic

Our optic system include one Reflector mirror, two planoconvex lens and one polarizing prism. To make our image right on our eyes.
At first, planoconvex lens usually is a round circle. We need make them as a 15x15mm square. I will suggest you to get some help front local glass store. And don’t forget polish the reflector mirror edge to 45 degrees.
When you get the case, we already keep the position for the FLCOS, you can put all the components in it, using Blu Tack to stabilize the mirror and polarizing prism. and put the lens in the middle between the display and prism. Boot up and adjust the lens in to right position, stabilize it too.

Step 8 : Software prototype

Yes, you already have a fully worked hardware system. but people never should stop think more. Next step, you can start you prototype design. to think about the glass experiences. We provide a basic example made by Microsoft Axure. you can start you idea base on that or create by you own.
We also provide Html5 package to demo how to simplify the Axure output files. After you create your own design, you can upload it to third part website to create APK by HTML5. Appsgeyser is a nice chose.

Postscript

We didn’t using any rocket science, only give you a simpliest design idea to help you create a funcitonal smart glass by your self. It’s doesn’t mean you can get a product level stuff.
